Biogas Solutions Print

Untreated, contaminants found in biogas can cause significant, costly and irreversible damage to downstream equipment, resulting in an increase in costs due to repair, replacement and downtime. Biorem offers a proven, cost effective line of biogas conditioning systems designed to protect your equipment from the damaging effects caused by H2S, siloxanes and VOCs typically found in sewage, digesters or landfill gas. With increased knowledge of the need for energy independence and for the development of sustainable energy sources, biogas emissions can be converted to a valuable source of alternate energy.

Biogas Conditioning  Biogas Conditioning

A typical Biogas treatment consists of the following;

• Hydrogen sulfide removal
• Moisture removal
• Siloxane removal
• VOC removal

Benefits

• Increase potential revenue from your gas stream  (electrical, heat, gas)
• Reduced emissions
• Meets gas quality targets
• Improves the economics of facility operation
• Reduces operations and maintenance costs
• Reduces equipment downtime
• Increases the longevity of downstream equipment

Sulfur Removal

The presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) can restrict the use of biogas as H2S will adversely impact downstream equipment and cause SOx emissions as a byproduct of combustion.
Biorem’s unique offering to the biogas conditioning process is the ability to remove H2S by biological means.  Because it uses biology, our process is safe and self sustaining, does not require replenishment of consumables and ensures that your downstream equipment will last longer and run more efficiently.

Benefits

• High efficiency H2S removal as high as 30,000 ppm
• Treatment that can remove H2S to pipeline specification
• Greater than 98% availability; self cleaning system eliminates the need for downtime
• Compact vertical tower design is ideal for sites with limited space requirements
• Lowest life cycle cost of any conditioning technology
• Conforms to all NFPA, NEC, CSA and NEMA codes and regulations
• Oxygen control includes several layers of safety

Siloxane Removal

Biogas captured from sources such as digesters and landfill sites contain high levels of contaminants such as siloxanes. The siloxanes are oxidized to silicon dioxide, which forms extremely abrasive deposits on the equipment, causing damage and reducing the equipment’s efficiency and rendering it inoperable in as few as 3,000 hours. Biorem offers several different technologies which can be selected (depending upon the types and concentrations of siloxanes present in the gas stream) to avert damage to boilers, microturbines or internal combustion engines. Biogas Conditioning

Benefits

• Extremely low contaminate levels for removal
• Lower energy costs required due to short regeneration cycle
• Low parasitic load: <10%
• Reduced operations and  maintenance costs (by 10-50% versus competitive systems)
• Low pressure systems, which allow for  greater safety of operation
• Small footprint due to the reduction in media required
• On-line times as high as 30,000 hours
• Ability to utilize waste heat
• Low frequency of media change and therefore reduced costs
• Lowest outlet emissions (byproducts) compared to those of competitive systems

Moisture Removal

Biogas coming from a digester is saturated with water vapour, Biorem offers a complete line of cooling and drying systems which can be configured for specific needs, to protect downstream equipment and increase the system efficiency.

Benefits

• Minimizes formation of acidic compounds such as sulfuric acid
• Increases BTU value
• Reduces corrosion
• Prevents condensation
• Protects downstream equipment
