Our Challenge

Plant and Operations Management at the 6 mgd wastewater treatment plant and water reclamation facility needed to control the almost 1000 ppm of H2S that was coming from the plant. With the high heat that Arizona is known for, they were looking for a low maintenance and low hazard odor control unit. They were also focused on finding an alternative to the chemical scrubbers which they found to be very high maintenance and had a high level of hazard due to the handling of two different kinds of chemicals.

Our Solution img_3015_bmf

After a successful pilot test which alleviated any doubts the engineering firm had about the packaged biofiltration system and its ability to handle the plants peak H2S, we installed a BIOCUBE® biofiltration system. The system consists of nine cells, each containing three trays of media, set up as three towers of three cells each. Each tower is currently adjusted to handle an equal volume of about 2000 cfm, with option to increase to 3000 cfm each as the plant’s customer case continues to grow.

Our Success

Since the unit was installed in 2005, it has been successfully eliminating H2S at a 99% removal rate. It was reported that there have been no odor complaints since the BIOCUBE® biofiltration system was installed.
