International Paints

The Project

International Paints produces solvent-based paint systems for the yacht and marine markets. The paint plant was in need of an alternative system to remove VOCs since the current gas-fired thermal oxidizer afterburner they were using became too costly to run. The abatement technology had to be able to handle xylene, keytones, alcohols and other VOCs coming from the plant while proving greater than 90% removal. international-paints-rounde

Biorem’s Solution

Biorem was selected for our dual-stage system which could provide greater than 90% VOC removal and our established reputation in the market.
Biorem provided International Paints with a two-stage system consisting of a biofilter with inorganic media followed by carbon adsorption. The biofiltration medium digest VOCs with about 80% removed at that stage, the airstream then continues to a carbon bed chamber where removal reaches 90-95%.

The system was installed in 2005 and designed to treat 3,000 cfm, it has been providing greater than 90% VOC destruction with levels typically at 96-97%.
